Neil Best, Director, Energy – Asia, Sedgwick
Neil holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a masters in polymer engineering and following university entered professional sport for 17 years. In 2015, after retirement, Neil pivoted and returned to his technical background and transitioned to become a specialist offshore loss adjuster with an international firm in Singapore.
Early cases focused on Shipyard Builders All-Riks (BAR) losses and Ship Repairers Legal Liability (SRLL) and Construction All Risks/Engineering All Risks (CAR/EAR) to offshore assets to include Deep Lay Vessels, Jack-up Rigs, Drill Ships and Central Processing Facilities (CPF) in the Asia-Pacific region.
Neil has significant experience managing operational losses to Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Vessels (FPSO’s) and their related subsea architecture, to include Single Point Mooring Buoys, Pipelines, Umbilical’s, Risers, Flowlines and Mid Water Arch Buoys.
Neil was the policy adjuster for Submarine Power Cable Lay Projects for both the Indonesian State Electricity Company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) and Malaysian Electricity Company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Additionally, Neil has vast experience of marine in-water seismic equipment losses in Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam and within the renewable energy space, managed various onshore solar wind farm files and near shore Wind Turbine Generator claims to inter-array cables in Vietnam.
Neil has strong local connections to cedants as well as reinsurance leaders in the London market.
Liew Boon Tat, Executive Energy Adjuster Major and Complex Loss – Asia, Sedgwick
Liew holds a degree in mechanical engineering and began his career at Keppel Shipyard. His early work primarily revolved around subcontracting work and tenders. He subsequently moved to work on ship repair and construction projects, with a focus on special vessels such as FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) units and Jackups.
In 2006, Liew transitioned to an adjusting career within an international practice. As a seasoned loss adjuster, he adeptly handled a diverse range of claims, including property damage, machinery breakdowns, alternative energy, mining, marine incidents, CAR/EAR (Contractors’ All Risks/Engineering All Risks), liability, and CAT (Catastrophic) claims. His comprehensive expertise spans various facets of insurance assessment and valuation. Liew manages both onshore and offshore construction and operational losses, dealing with complex insurance claims related to marine and other types of losses. Additionally, he has performed risk management work, including shipyard risk surveys and fire risk assessments. Liew also has experience with Third-Party Liability claims, including pollution and property damage, as well as renewables losses and Business Interruption claims. Furthermore, he has established valuable networks in the Chinese, Japanese, and ASEAN insurance markets.
