Karl Hamann
Karl Hamann is a veteran of the insurance industry with over 35 years of working experience in the industry, of which 20 years was spent in Asia.
Karl is currently CEO of Aon Indonesia where he has served this role since September 2022. Prior to Karl’s appointment in Indonesia, Karl was CEO of Pacific MMI Insurance in Papua New Guinea and earlier CEO, South Asia for QBE during the period from March 2014 until June 2019. Other roles in Asia included Chief Executive Officer of QBE Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad for close to 4 years and was the Regional Operations Manager, Asia in QBE’s Regional Office from 2006 to 2010, covering QBE's operations in Asia including Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Karl was also the President and CEO & Executive Director of QBE Insurance (Philippines) Inc from 2002 to 2005. Karl first joined QBE in 1997 and moved to Asia as a Technical Advisor for QBE Pool Indonesia from 2000 to 2002.
Having worked in Sydney and Asia with strategic and leadership responsibilities in underwriting, claims, distribution and operational roles, Karl has extensive knowledge of the insurance industry both internationally and in the region. Under his strategic leadership in the various QBE's offices in Asia, Karl made significant contributions in driving business growth and profitability in these markets, and operational efficiency.
Karl holds a Bachelor Degree in Commerce from Deakin University and is a Fellow of the Australian Insurance Institute. He was also the Chair, ASEAN Insurance Council, President of the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA), Member of the WSH2028 Tripartite Strategy Committee and Co-Chair of the Partnerships Workgroup for the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Deputy Chairman of the Insurance Workgroup for the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC), Council Member of The Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF), Committee Member of The Financial Sector Tripartite Committee (FSTC) and Board of Governors of The Singapore College of Insurance (SCI).
